Projections of climate change presume that future changes will be based on current trends and patterns of greenhouse gas emissions, land use changes, and other human activities that contribute to global warming. These projections are made using complex computer models that simulate the Earth's climate system. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) provides the most widely accepted projections of climate change. According to the IPCC, if greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase at current rates, global temperatures are projected to rise between 2.5 and 10.4 degrees Fahrenheit (1.4 to 5.8 degrees Celsius) by the end of the century. This would lead to an increase in extreme weather events such as heatwaves, droughts, and heavy precipitation, sea-level rise, and changes in precipitation patterns that could affect freshwater resources. The impacts of these changes will vary depending on the region, with some areas experiencing more severe effects than others. For example, coastal regions and small islands are particularly vulnerable to sea-level rise, while regions that rely heavily on snow and ice for water resources, such as the western United States and parts of Asia, are at risk of losing these important water sources. It's worth noting that the future of climate change is uncertain and depends on how much and how quickly we can reduce emissions, how well we adapt to the changes that are already happening, and how much natural variability there is in the climate system.
